JASON: I have been in the liquor industry for 20
years managing mostly retail stores but I have also
worked in the wholesale wine market. I started my
career in Melbourne hotels and moved to Sydney
to pursue a career in retail liquor.
TIFFANY: I have recently joined Fisher Fine Wines
bringing with me extensive retail management
experience in both the liquor industry and in other
retail fields. I also gained bar experience while
completing my degree.
HOW ARE YOU FINDING THE
JASON: The retail liquor market is always
challenging and evolving with increasing levels of
competition. I enjoy this space as it is rewarding to
continuously trial new products and support small
producers to satisfy our customers' needs. In a
challenging market I find that customer service is
the key to success. We strive to stay ahead of the
market and as such the craft beer explosion in
Sydney's inner west has brought amazing energy to
our inner west stores. It is pleasing to be regarded
as a leader in this category.
TIFFANY: Quite good. June was extremely strong
for us and we are currently experiencing a great
July. It's nice to see some heavy reds moving with
the colder weather and continued growth in the
Chardonnay and Riesling categories throughout
winter. This has been relatively consistent across
a variety of territories in NSW.
WHAT DEALS OR
PROMOTIONS ARE WORKING
FOR YOU AT THE MOMENT?
JASON: We are always looking for new ways to
keep our customers engaged. While offering gift
with purchase and multi-buy discounts, we also
conduct regular tastings and educational events.
Our team members have many customers from all
over Sydney who call in because they rely on our
broad industry experience, product knowledge
TIFFANY: A variety of industry initiatives exist with
Fisher Fine Wines currently. Opportunities to be
eligible for trade incentives including trips to the
McLaren Vale and trade dinners exist for retailers
with large purchasing capacity, these always
prove to be popular with our customers.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST
ABOUT THE JOB?
JASON: I've always considered three key parts to
my position; managing the business day-to-day;
team member training; and always ensuring high
levels of customer satisfaction. There's nothing
more rewarding than training a younger member
on the team to give them the tools to sell quality
products to our customers. I have always enjoyed
working with party and corporate orders knowing
that with my assistance the end result will be
people having a fun at an enjoyable event.
TIFFANY: I really enjoy working closely with the
wineries and chatting to them about marketing
initiatives. The huge network that we are involved
in and the experience that a lot of amazing
people bring to the trade is incredible. Oh, and
of course, wine!
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST
ABOUT WORKING WITH
JASON: Tiffany has great retail experience and
has the advantage of bringing retail knowledge to
the other side of the fence which is invaluable.
This makes her a great sales professional with the
ability to see the inside aspect of each store.
TIFFANY: I enjoy seeing how all of the
Camperdown Cellars managers approach their
stores. They are always willing to try something
new, and Jason is usually at the front of the pack
with these things. He's a great mentor to the
newer managers and proves that even in stressful
situations, a smile and a laugh is still achievable.
HOW DO YOU APPROACH
JASON: Tiffany knows very well that I am always
on-the-go, so a rep's preparation for meetings is
paramount as my time is always limited. I find
setting appointments extremely valuable as it
allows me to prepare in advance so I may hear
what Fisher Fine Wines, and any other distributor,
can bring to my customers.
TIFFANY: As Jason said, organisation is
important, as is understanding what each store
needs and doesn't need. I also really enjoy getting
to know such a variety of different managers
across the stores in my territory. As it is with Jason
and I, it quickly becomes less like work and more
like checking in on mates. This is becoming more
apparent the more I get to know my territory of
