WHAT WERE SOME OF
THE HIGHLIGHTS FOR
MARKETERS (ALM) IN 2015?
ALM experienced another positive year in
2015 with independents trading strongly
in a flat liquor market. This overall shift in
consumption, where consumers are trading up
to more premium products, works particularly
well for our smaller format stores and has
seen our retailers benefit by providing a more
WHAT WILL BE THE MAIN
FOCUS FOR ALM IN 2016?
We will continue to grow and invest in a better
retail offer for our independent retailers. The
independents are really well placed to provide
consumers with a differentiated shopper
experience – with a focus on value as well as
providing range and convenience.
From an on-premise perspective, ALM will
refocus on our supply model to ensure we drive
better service for those customers.
HOW HAS THE TREND
IMPACTED ON YOUR
This trend has been very positive for ALM and
independent retailers. A key strength of our
retailers is their depth of knowledge of their
shoppers’ needs and having the flexibility to
tailor their range accordingly. As our retailers
put their customers at the heart of everything
they do, we tend to have a greater ability to
adapt to new trends.
Equally from an on-premise perspective,
patrons are also diversifying their repertoire
and as a result, trading up.
Having the ability to respond to these
trends and our customers’ needs by having
the range, puts ALM at distinct competitive

DO YOU FEEL THAT

Both are equally reliant on each other. In
order for suppliers to have a sustainable
future, there is a requirement for independents

IN WHICH AREAS DO YOU
EXPECT TO SHOW THE
MOST AMOUNT OF
GROWTH IN 2016?
Category growth will continue to be
influenced by market trends and the shift to a
more premium offering.
With health and wellbeing also an
ongoing focus for consumers into 2016, the
development of products that cater to the
health conscious consumer like the rise of
low carb beers, low calorie wines, low sugar,
gluten free and organic products will continue
to play a role across the categories. Education
of these products and the benefits they provide
will be key to retail growth of new lines.
WHAT ARE THE KEY ISSUES
